THE EVENT

A Tavola con il Nobile is a food and wine contest created in 2003 by TG2 reporter Bruno Gambacorta with the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Consorzio publicize this event in order to promote knowledge of the area and the quality of typical local products, through the distinctive features of Montepulciano’s prestigious wine, and rediscover local traditional recipes. Alongside the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the protagonists of this event are the town’s eight districts, who also compete in the Bravìo delle Botti (www.braviodellebotti.it), Montepulciano’s classic and historical summer event.

The event is held every year during the penultimate weekend of August (which is the one before the Bravìo), in each district’s headquarters in Montepulciano. The contest between the eight districts is divided into two sessions: one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The theme of the Saturday session is first courses and the Sunday theme is main courses.

The eight districts engage in a battle in the kitchen, preparing local traditional food and dishes, often in a new interpretation, accompanied by Vino Nobile di Montepulciano thus enhancing the features of both the typical products and the prestigious local wine. The dishes are judged by a panel of 30 or so journalists from all over Italy, who formulate an overall score (including the first and second courses) in order to declare the winner of the event.
