The Ercolani winery has been run by two brothers, Carlo and Marco, for about 30 years and consists of 150 hectares, 13,80 of vineyards, 4 of olive grove, 1 of orchard, 0,50 of vegetable garden and the rest of sown ground, grazing land and woods at about 450 mt. a.s.l. The Ercolani brothers carry on their grandparents' work and use their wine-making knowledge to produce high-quality wines, looking back to the local tradition and using the modern technology. The vineyards are cultivated with guyot and cordon-pruning and the vines are: Sangiovese, Prugnolo Gentile, Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, white Malvasia, white Trebbiano and Grechetto which are used to produce Vino Nobile, Rosso, Vinsanto, Chianti, red and white I.G.T. . The vinification is made in teh traditional way and the ageing is done in oak barrels in our Renaissance cellar named Città Sotterranea (underground city), located along the main street in Montepulciano. There it is possible to have a free tasting of our wines and typical products (olive oil, cured pork meats, sheep's cheese, honey, jams, cantucci biscuits) and to visit the medieval caves, the museum of wine and torture instruments and the Etruscan tomb. Moreover we arrange customized tastings and guided tours to the vineyards and the ageing cellar.
