La Braccesca
La Braccesca, the first portions of which were acquired by the Antinori family in 1990, has a total size of approximately 508 ha, divided into two main blocks. One block of 366 ha, of which 233 ha are planted with vines, lies on the council boundary between Montepulciano and Cortona. The other covers 142 ha of which 103 ha planted with vineyards, and it is situated in the three most well-known sub-zones for the production of high-quality reds: Cervognano, Gracciano and Santa Pia.
The vineyards consist of almost equal proportions of Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), Merlot and Syrah and they lie at an altitude of about 280-300m. The soils of the area nearest Cortona are sandy, clayey and fairly muddy, while those in the zones of Cervognano, Gracciano and S. Pia are pure sands and are fossil-rich.
The climate of this area is fairly temperate with a good level of rainfall, above all in the spring and autumn months.
