Located in Tuscany, to the south of Siena, the pictoresque town of Montepulciano lies high above the Chiana valley (Valdichiana) in Tuscany and overlooks the vineyards, olive groves and fertile fields spreading out on the gentle hills around it. Montepulciano has long been a centre of vinegrowing and wine-producing that one associates with the famous Vino Nobile, a red wine of highest value. Our estate Terra Antica S.r.l. lies approximately 4 km outside the old part of Montepulciano. Situated on a hill with good exposure,at approx.350 mt a.s.l.,the estate covers 16 hectares of land 4 of which are planted with vines and about 2 with olive trees. Varieties of vines: predominantly Sangiovese; as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Harvesting: ls done manually, carefully choosing the grapes destined to make Vino Nobile. Winemaking operation: Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vessels at a controlled temperature, with the help of natural yeasts from the vineyard. The alcoholic fermentation and steeping last for 15 to 20 days. Then the wine is racked of and left to clear itself for 3 months. Ageing Process: All red wines are refined in barrels made from French (Allier) oak for varying periods according to the type of product.
